Report rates 50 cities on electric vehicle readiness

Just discovered a cool web site for anyone who interested in purchasing an electric vehicle and wondering just how far he or she can travel in same. Called Project Get Ready, the site is a non-profit initiative tied to the Rocky Mountain Institute.

The group has published a report called “PEV Readiness Study - Electric Vehicles in America,” that ranks 50 U.S. metro areas for their electric vehicle readiness. The report is free, but you’ll have to give up some personal information in order to download it.

The research behind the rankings was conducted by Roland Berger Strategy Consultants and Project Get Ready. It considers factors including regulatory environment, infrastructure readiness, consumer readiness and operating environment.

Here are the cities with the highest electric vehicle momentum (in no particular order):

  • Orlando, Fla.
  • Phoenix
  • Portland
  • San Francisco
  • Seattle
  • Los Angeles
  • Denver
  • Austin
  • New York
  • Sacramento, Calif.

Cities that are considered followers:

  • New Orleans
  • Jacksonville, Fla.
  • Salt Lake City
  • Miami
  • Oklahoma City
  • Cleveland
  • Cincinnati
