Will Apple use AMD's new Fusion APUs in its future products?

Here’s the latest rumor for Apple fanboys and haters to work themselves into a lather over. A source close to AMD is confirming a report that Apple will use AMD’s Fusion processors in some upcoming products.

Such a move would break Intel’s lock on providing processors for Apple, and be a major boon to AMD. The company already supplies Radeon graphics cards for the latest iMacs, but this would be the first time the tech giant would use AMD processors to power its systems.

Fusion features APUs, or Accelerated Processing Units, so called because they combine a CPU and GPU on a single chip. The first Fusion chips will released for laptops and could wind up in a new MacBook or MacBook Pro if they provide the type of graphics performance and battery life that AMD is promising. Apple of course almost never responds to such reports and tries to avoid information leaks as much as possible, so don’t expect much more than idle speculation about this rumor until the Macworld conference rolls around in January.
