CES: MSI announces Intel-powered laptops, all-in-one PCs, Sandy Bridge motherboards

LAS VEGAS — Amid a press conference of scattered details and an overload of unnecessary numbers, MSI unveiled some very interesting laptops and all-in-one PCs plus some details about components withIntel’s latest star, Sandy Bridge.

As far as portable computers go, we have two big lines to look forward to this year: the G series and F series. Given the letter, the G series is ideal for gaming, already being boasted by MSI as the “world’s fastest gaming notebooks” with Intel Core i7 quad-core processors and USB 3.0 connectivity.

Starting off with the GT680 and GT780 (pictured above and right), the 15.6- and 17.3-inch laptops host NVIDIA GeForce GTX 400 and 500 Series graphics cards respectively, along with MSI’s signature Turbo Drive Engine for improved speed. The GT680 got some extra love with 4 SO-DIMM DDR3 memory slots for an overall boost up to 16GB. This one also got a price tag ($1,499.99) and an estimated shipping time in late January. Scheduled to ship during the second quarter of 2011, pricing hasn’t been revealed for the GT780.

There are also a few models lined up for “casual gamers.” Those would be the 15.6-inch GR620 and GE620, but MSI hasn’t delved farther into the details on either of those just yet.

Then we have the F Series, reflecting high performance while remaining fashionable and chic. (Although based on the look of the FX420 - pictured right and not deviating from the look of the rest of the laptops in this series - it would seem that these are just rather sleek machines.) These notebooks should be beautiful inside and out with Intel Turbo Boost 2.0 technology, Intel Core i5 and i7 processor options, Direct X support and NVIDIA GeForce GT 500 series graphics. Pricing starts at $699.99 when the MSI F Series rolls out during the first quarter of this year.

Finally, we have some new all-in-one units to expect from MSI this quarter. The new major players in this collection are the 21.5-inch AE2210 (pictured below) and 23.6-inch AE2410 with 16:9 widescreen displays with full HD 1080p resolutions. The most promoted spec on these desktops is the integration of MSI’s Super Charger Technology, which allows users the convenience of charging external devices via one of the two USB 3.0 ports even when the computer is shut down.

Pricing for the AE2210 starts at $799.99, while the AE2410 will begin at $899.99

Most notably, MSI is stepping up its components set-up with the latest generation of processors, Sandy Bridge P67 and H67 motherboards. These allow for the support of a multiple BIOS recovery design, THX TruStudio Pro surround sound technology and many more USB 3.0 ports, among other features.
